Beacon Broadband, Inc., powered by Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative, has officially connected its first high-speed fiber customers to its network. On Thursday, December 9, this celebratory event marks the first 25 customers in the Beacon Broadband pilot test area that are now receiving quality gigabit-speed internet service.
“Just over a year ago, Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative created Beacon Broadband to bring the highspeed fiber experience where no one else will go. Looking ahead at our need to build more than 1,400 miles of fiber optic cabling to support a network that will strengthen regional vitality sometimes feels overwhelming. However, any journey of a thousand miles begins with a few steps. We are really excited to gather together today to celebrate these first 25 steps.” Paul Recanzone, general manager of Beacon Broadband.
Beacon Broadband is building a high-speed fiber-optic to the premises network that will span the CoosCurry Electric Cooperative footprint and include surrounding areas with very little internet access. The company has begun construction in the southern end of the Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative service territory. It anticipates reaching all CCEC members over the next four years.
The greater southern Oregon coast was limited to an older cable and DSL internet technology prone to slower service and network interruptions before the launch. However, Beacon Broadband's state-of-the- art network providing symmetrical gigabit speeds local and reliable service will become vastly available as network construction proceeds north. Beacon Broadband service offers three internet plans to choose from to meet various customer needs and will be available to prospective customers with no data caps, contracts, or required bundles. With three internet plan offerings, customers can expect to pay $120 per month for the top plan of 1-gigabit internet, with installation and equipment included during the project's construction phases.
Beacon Broadband's high-speed connectivity will offer more than just improved broadband. Beacon Broadband is bringing the high-speed fiber experience where no one else will go and will transform the quality of life and economic vitality for those who live, work and play in Curry and portions of Coos County.
